Why the Blue Lagoon?
Comino is the small, almost car-free island between Malta and Gozo. On its western edge, a shallow channel of white sand turns the water a startling turquoise: the Blue Lagoon.
Boats run from Malta and Gozo through the season. Timing is everything. Arrive early or stay late and it is magical; at midday in August it can be very crowded.

How do I get to the Blue Lagoon?
By boat only. Ferries and cruises run from Cirkewwa and Marfa at Malta's northern tip (shortest crossing), from Sliema and Bugibba/St Paul's Bay (longer cruises), and from Mgarr on Gozo.
When is the best time to visit?
May, June, September and early October offer warm water with fewer crowds than July and August. On any day, go early morning or late afternoon.
Do I need to book in advance?
In summer, yes: boats and good time slots sell out. Visitor-management rules at the lagoon have changed in recent seasons, so check the current requirements for your date before you go.
Is there shade at the Blue Lagoon?
Very little natural shade. You can hire sunbeds and umbrellas, but bring sun protection and water.
